Deadman Wonderland: Anime

Hey guys, how’s it going? Rahul here coming in with a new blog! Today guys we are reviewing yet another anime! Deadman Wonderland. So let’s begin!

This action, horror, sci-fi show was written by Jinsei Kataoka and illustrated by Kazuma Kondou. Originated from the manga “Deadman Wonderland”.

No of episodes: 12

Main characters:

  • Ganta Igarashi
  • Shiro

The story is set in Japan where Ganta Igarashi is said to be the survivor of a great earthquake that sunk three-quarters of Tokyo into the ocean. This 14-year old has no memories of this incident. One day, out of the blue, a person covered in blood and crimson armor appears to be floating out of Ganta’s classroom. This ‘Red Man’ massacres the entire class leaving Ganta alive…. on purpose. Soon, Ganta is suspected and is sentenced to death by court at “Deadman Wonderland”, a prison and theme park!   Fortunately for Ganta, he is helped by a mysterious girl named Shiro who apparently knows Ganta but whose existence is unknown to the other prisoners.  Due to special ‘powers’, Ganta has become one of the prison’s “Deadmen”, an isolated group of prisoners possessing the Branches of Sin an ability which makes them capable of controlling their blood. After his ability is discovered, Ganta is forced to participate in brutal gladiatorial death matches known as Carnival Corpse, whose anonymous spectators pay large amounts of money to watch. His mission is to find this ‘Red Man’ and clear his name. So, the story continues…

The anime is very odd. Some parts are not explained very properly. The story is a good one and the way it has been portrayed is very good  as well. The animation is pretty good. One can see where the concept is headed but it sort of gets lost in the middle. Nothing exciting. Something you can watch in a day but wont enjoy as much. Quite dry in all. But not too bad like *puke*. Can be watched if you have patience and can be loved if you love lots of confusing stories.

I would give this anime a 2.5/5 stars.
