Haikyuu!! (Season 1): Anime

Hey guys, how’s it going? Rahul here coming in with a brand new blog. Hope everyone’s week has been going amazing! So let’s begin the review of the first season of this anime Haikyuu.

This sport anime was written by Haruichi Furudate and was aired in April, 2014.

No. of episodes: 25

  • Ryūnosuke Tanaka
  • Tobio Kageyama
  • Shōyō Hinata

The story revolves around high schoolers who play volleyball. Their school is given the name of the ‘falling champions’ and now with their new and improved team they aim to go to the nationals!

First of all let me say, this anime has a lot of stuff in common with KNB (Kuroko No Basket). Hinata and Kageyama are like the shadow and the light, the matches winning and losing pattern are exactly the same as that in KNB’s inter-high. I was disappointed when I noticed this. Actually, it was so obvious that even my 13 year old brother noticed. Also, the opening and endings are very common in Haikyuu!! and KNB. I find it very sad to know that an anime with such diverse and unique characters with great individual stories and a great story line had to copy their basic plot from another anime. Of course this is my opinion. I could be entirely wrong and could sound like a complete idiot right now. Moving on. The anime does develop some characters with some really awesome stories behind them. I feel that’s the basis of this anime. More than the sport, they focused on the characters. I hope this is how it is only in the first season and there will be more sports and action in the other seasons. Now that does sound like  a ton of criticism but the anime is actually very entertaining and fun to watch. Whatever few matches that the anime had were extremely interesting and nerve-racking. Each character adds to the anime and provides a new level of entertainment. From the ace to the libero to our main character, Hinata. All are amazing. I really did enjoy this season and can’t wait to get started onto season 2. This season lacked the seriousness in the competition that most sport anime’s have. I would still recommend, highly, to watch this anime. Overall pretty good.

I would give this season of the anime 3.5/5 stars.
